Abstract
Filarial infections remain significant causes of disability in tropical areas worldwide. However, insights into the developmental and molecular biology of the parasite and the immunobiology of the host response to infection have advanced our understanding, even as progress is being made towards implementing eradication programs. This article summarizes some of the recent advances in the understanding of filarial biology and parasite immune evasion mechanisms, and reviews those newer aspects of diagnosis and treatment most relevant to clinicians. Keywords
