Abstract
Data from large published stroke registries are reviewed concerning donor sources, recipient sites and clinical findings in patients with brain embolism. Clinical diagnosis of brain embolism should be based on findings that relate to both donor source and recipient site. The presence of a potential donor source does not by itself mean that the brain infarct is due to embolism. Keywords
