The Effect of Microbial Contamination of the Blood Sample on the Determination of Ethanol Levels in Serum

Abstract
A postmortem blood specimen contaminated with a variety of microorganisms was noted to contain increasing ethanol concentrations upon standing. Various organisms were isolated from the specimen, and all were found capable of producing ethanol when inoculated into bank blood. The effect of fluoride on the production of ethanol was determined.
