Abstract
SUMMARY: The National Forecasting Scheme for potato blight control had not been successful in the Romney Marsh area of Kent for many years.Hygrothermographs sited over a small but uniform topographical area showed marked variation in the occurrence of Beaumont periods indicating a probable reason for the frequent failure of the National Warning Scheme when applied to this area.A modified blight spray programme for Romney Marsh was devised in which spray timings are based primarily on the growth stage of the crop.A nine‐spray trial showed that blight can be controlled in the Romney Marsh and an economic return produced. Keywords
