Investigation of haemoglobin dissociation by proton spin-lattice relaxation times

Abstract
Proton spin-lattice relaxation times have been measured for methaemoglobin solutions as a function of the degree of dissociation of the protein. The dimers were less hydrated than the tetramers and it is suggested that this results from the release of water from the internal cavity of the haemoglobin molecule on dissociation.
