Abstract
Attrition rate (AR) and impeded eruption rate (IER) of the lower incisors of 20 rats were measured weekly for 20 wks. In 10 of these rats, the unimpeded eruption rate (UER) of the nonoccluding left lower incisor was measured twice-weekly during the same period. There was no significant difference between left and right incisors in either AR or IER. Although AR and IER were significantly greater in the female, there was no significant sex difference in IER. Both sexes probably have the same eruptive potential. The IER is significantly greater than AR; continual eruption of the incisor compensates for attrition and allows a significant increase in length. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
