To the Editor: Three years ago1 my colleagues and I reported that 85 per cent of a group of travelers (including a physician and two nurses) in Belize, a malarious Central American country, were not taking chloroquine prophylaxis. However, 75 per cent of the group had consulted a physician or health department for health advice before departure, and frequently the advice given was either inaccurate or incomplete.Since 1977 the number of imported cases of malaria has risen dramatically.
