Sarcoid Myopathy

Abstract
SINCE the first report of the finding of lesions of sarcoid in muscle by Licharew in 1908, the disorder has been reported with increasing frequency. In the majority of these cases the involved muscle appeared clinically normal, but biopsy revealed involvement by sarcoid. The importance of this examination was stressed by Wallace et al. who found that of random biorjsies on 42 patients with sarcoid, 23 showed characteristic lesions. They suggested that random biopsy of muscle might well be of value as a diagnostic procedure in cases of suspected sarcoid. The incidence of symptomatic involvement of muscle by sarcoid, however, is much lower. Thus, by 1958, McConkey was able to collect only 13 cases of sarcoid involvement of muscle which were symptomatic. He added one additional case. In 1959 Harvey reported 3 additional cases. In view of the rarity of this entity and the possibility of benefit from appropriate therapy,
