Collisional dissociation and the binding energy ofH3+

Abstract
Collisional dissociation of 750-2000-eV H3+ ions has been studied by translational spectroscopy. From the energy spectra of the H2+ ions arising from electronic excitation to the E11 repulsive state, the energy of the lowest A11 state of H3+ was found to be - 1.33±0.01 hartree.
