Abstract
The diagnosis of hiatal hernia may be suspected from the simple history obtained during a patient's first office visit. Selection of proper treatment is the responsibility of the family physician. Therapy should suit the individual's needs, and the intelligent patient should be acquainted with the merits of both medical and surgical types of treatment. He should also have some voice in selecting the treatment best adapted to his problem. Keywords
