Abstract
The hourly rate of metabolism of ethyl alcohol was studied in 6 humans over 24 hour periods, ingesting a predetermined hourly dose of alcohol in excess of their normal hourly metabolic rates. In the 5 subjects with normal diurnal habits, a variation of rate of metabolism was noticed, being considerably slower during the night than during the day. The physiologic significance and legal implications of these findings are discussed. Keywords
