Are Drift-Wave Eigenmodes Unstable?

Abstract
It is shown that the eigenmodes of the collisionless drift wave in slab geometry are stable. Previous studies yielding instability (the "universal" instability) were based upon an incomplete treatment of the electron dynamics; i.e., the principal part of the plasma dispersion function was ignored.Keywords
