Syringadenoma Papilliferum

Abstract
Solitary verrucous and papillary lesions of the skin usually lend themselves to accurate clinical diagnosis. Occasionally, however. the clinician is surprised to learn that a verrucous lesion has been interpreted on pathologic examination as an adenoma of sweat gland origin. These lesions commonly have been known as syringadenoma papilliferum (Werther1), naevus syringadenomatosus papilliferus, or syringacystadenoma papilliferum, although one of the earliest reports referred to them as adeno-cystoma intracanaliculare (Elliot2). Only a few tumors of this kind are recorded in the American literature. It is the purpose of this paper to describe and correlate the clinical and pathologic characteristics of a large group observed at the Armed Forces Institute of Pathology. MATERIALS AND METHODS This report is based upon the microscopic examination of 100 examples of syringadenoma papilliferum removed from the skin of persons varying in age from 3 to 61 years.
