Abstract
The level of total lipids, cholesterol, cholesterol esters, phosphatides and plasmalogens was determined in bovine corena, in central and peripheral corneal sections, and in the 3 layers (epithelium, stroma, endothelium). Lecithin, sphingomyelin, serin cephalin and colamine cephalin were found in every layer. The epithelium also contained small amounts of a hitherto unknown phos-phatide. The fatty acid composition of the neutral lipids and of the phosphatides was determined.
