The Surplus of Physicians in France The increasing number of physicians in France, out of proportion to the population, has been observed for a long time. The surplus has become so great that the Confédération des syndicats médicaux has decided to sound a cry of alarm. It has sent a circular letter to teachers and to parents of pupils of the senior classes in the colleges; that is to say, to the young men who are about to complete their school courses and decide on their life work. The letter notes the disappointments that await them if they decide to take up the study of medicine. The reports of the faculties of medicine indicate that the number of physicians has doubled within eight years.
