Abstract
3‐Ketotetrahydrofuran (II) has been obtained spectroscopically as well as gas‐chromatographically pure. A major modification in the dichromate‐sulphuric acid oxidation of the starting alcohol (I) has almost doubled the yield to 60%.The chromium trioxide‐pyridine oxidation of (I) is described for the first time and yields as high as 70% are obtained. The NMR spectrum of (II) is reported. Keywords
