Abstract
The present paper introduces a method for measuring joint fluid volumes using 113mIn-radionuclide and a conventional iodine-measuring system. The method gave an average volume of rheumatoid knee joint effusions of 47 ml. After removal of effusion the residual vol- i uine was 24 ml (48%), on average, thus showing the inefficiency of ordinary joint aspiration. Even after a forced aspiration, 41% of the fluid was left in the joint cavity. The method is recommended to be used in connection with intra-articular therapy for obtaining optimal drug concentrations. An example is presented of the use of the method in dose calculation of 90Y.Keywords
