Indirect exchange for rare earths in metals

Abstract
It is suggested that the RKKY form of indirect interaction for rare earths in metals cannot adequately explain the experimental results. A mechanism with positive f-d exchange and direct d-d interactions is proposed and is shown to give satisfactory agreement with experiment.Keywords
