Abstract
A new emission band spectrum attributable to the diatomic silicon monoiodide molecule is reported. The spectrum consists of sharp red- degraded bands in the region lambda 5500- lambda 4800. The bands are ascribed to a doublet system whose vibrational formulae are as follows: Sub-system I nu =20294.5+or-276.3( upsilon +1/2)-6.0( upsilon +1/2)2- 358.8( upsilon "+1/2)+1.21( upsilon "+1/2)2. Sub-system II nu =19644.2+276.0( upsilon '+1/2)2.-5.85( upsilon '1/2)2- 358.7( upsilon "+1/2)+1.57( upsilon "1/2)2. By analogy with the other monohalides of silicon the transition involved in the emission of this doublet system is identified as the A 2 Sigma +-x 2 Pi r transition of SiI.Keywords
