Abstract
For pt.II see ibid., vol.5, p.351 (1979). The model the authors discuss consists of an axially symmetric core plus N=2, 4, 6, 8, 10 or 12 particles in the (i132/) subshell with a quadrupole-plus-pairing interaction. The exact solutions of this model are calculated by diagonalisation dimensions of the matrices up to 1519). These results are compared with the results obtained by applying (a) the method of specific decoupling together with HFB (SDHFB) and (b) the method of angular momentum projection from HFB wavefunctions (HFBP) to this problem. This comparison shows the ranges in which the two approximation methods yield a good description and the directions in which improvements are necessary. Keywords
