Samarium-Catalyzed Electrosynthesis of 1,2-Diketones by the Direct Reductive Dimerization of Aromatic Esters: A Novel Coupling Reaction

Abstract
A series of diaryl diketones are obtained in moderate to good yield by the one-step electrochemical coupling of aromatic esters, utilizing samarium(III) chloride as the catalyst precursor in the presence of a magnesium anode.
