Abstract
The livers of the polar bear and the seal, Phoca barbata, were very rich in vit. A; 3 specimens of bear liver contained 18,000, 18,000 and 13,000 I.U./g. of fresh liver, and a sample of seal liver 13,000. The ingestion of excessive amts. of bear liver by rats led in one instance to fatal hypervitami-nosis A; smaller amts. produced no obvious injury. The well-known poisonous action of bear liver in man is probably due to its high content of vit. A.This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
