Configuration Mixing within theShell

Abstract
The Coulombic Hamiltonian of atoms approximately commutes with an -electron operator which is a sum of O(4) Casimir operators. This accurately fixes configuration mixing within the entire shell. Several aspects of the stability of the results are discussed.
