Abstract
A series of 21 knit fabric variations, including cotton, rayon, polypropylene, a number of polyester constructions and finishes, and poly/cotton blends, were compared in four wearer trials in order to produce a more comfortable polyester garment. Polymer type, cross-sectional shape, and other engineering modifications were all found to affect the comfort of female subjects wearing knit tops with these clothing variations. Combined with a jet dyeing procedure and, in one case, a topical finish, comfort levels close to all cotton were achieved with an 80/20 polyester/cotton blend and an all polyester fabric. Keywords
