Electromagnons in multiferroic YMn2O5 and TbMn2O5

Abstract
Based on temperature dependences of the far infrared transmission spectra of multiferroic YMn2O5 and TbMn2O5 single crystals, we report observation of the electromagnons in RMn2O5 compounds. Activation of electromagnons is a property of Mn spins system and it causes step-like anomalies in temperature dependencies of the dielectric constant. Different selection rules for electromagnons in RMn2O5 and RMnO3 suggest different magnetic-lattice coupling mechanisms in these two multiferroic systems.
