Preparation and Critical Current Density of Melt-Textured Y-Ba-Cu-O Superconductor Containing Fine Y2BaCuO5Inclusions

Abstract
Melt-textured YBa2Cu3Oysuperconductor containing fine Y2BaCuO5inclusions (a few hundreds nanometers in size) was prepared by using of attrition-milled YBa2Cu3Oy/Y2BaCuO5powder with 1 wt% CeO2addition. It is found that the combination of the CeO2addition and the mechanical milling of the powder mixture is effective in reducing Y2BaCuO5size. The critical current density (Jc) of the sample containing fine Y2BaCuO5is higher than that of the sample containing coarse Y2BaCuO5.JcforH||c-axis of Y1.8Ba2.4Cu3.4Oywith coarse Y2BaCuO5was 1.1×104A/cm2and 0.56×104A/cm2, whileJcof Y1.8Ba2.4Cu3.4Oywith fine Y2BaCuO5was 2.0×104A/cm2and 1.16×104A/cm2at 1 T, 2 T and 77 K, respectively.
