Study of starting performances of switched reluctance motors

Abstract
This paper studies the starting performances of switched reluctance motors (SRM), which are very important to variable-speed drives. Two starting methods are discussed. Four terms to describe the starting performances of SRMs are defined. The methods to calculate the starting torque and phase currents are introduced. The effects of the rotor skew are analyzed. A rational and reliable way to start SRMs is proposed in this paper.
