Abstract
An hypothesis suggesting an inverse relationship between age at doctorate and six operational indices of publication output was tested by correlation analysis. The findings indicated a negative association between age at PhD and all six indices of productivity, but the strength of the relationship was considerably less profound than has generally been assumed in the literature. The institution of controls did not alter the relationship. Several possible reasons for the lack of predictive utility of the independent variable were suggested and briefly discussed. Keywords
