Abstract
During an outbreak of the velvetbean caterpillar, Anticarsia gemmatilis, in 1944, field studies were made on the effectiveness of several cryolite dusts as well as a 3% DDT dust. The number of treatments with cryolite and the time of application were evaluated for the season. One timely application of undiluted cryolite or 3% DDT gave excellent control of the caterpillars and substantial increases in yield. The loss of peanuts ranged from 200 to 1,000 lb. per acre, depending on the degree of worm control and the date peanuts were dug. Losses increased with worm populations and delay in digging. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
