Abstract
Behavioral psychology is a major orientation within both the academic and therapeutic communities. Its successful application to a wide range of human problems has been demonstrated. The impact of behavioral psychology upon the practice of ministry, especially in pastoral counseling, Christian education and church management, has been negligible. The theological response has been mostly limited to reviews of Skinner's Beyond Freedom and Dignity. The reasons for this paucity of response are unclear but the dominance of Freudian and Rogerian psychology is significant. There are currents in pastoral counseling and the practice of ministry which may point to a greater openness toward behavioral psychology.
