Abstract
SUMMARY: A brief petrographical description of the Ordovician metasediments of the Beckermonds Scar Borehole is given, with more detailed coverage of their anomalously high magnetite content. Despite the presence of secondary vein mineralisation it is concluded that the magnetite, and hence the high magnetic anomaly at the site, is essentially of sedimentary origin. A quartz-microdiorite minor intrusion probably postdates early mineralisation and therefore also the Wensleydale Granite, with which proportions of both the veins and the metamorphism may be associated. Keywords
