Varicosities of the pulmonary veins simulating arteriovenous fistulas

Abstract
In four cases, the original diagnosis of pulmonary arteriovenous fistula proved to be incorrect. Pulmonary angiography readily established the correct diagnosis of varicosity of the pulmonary vein in each case. Such varicosities are congenital in origin and probably have little significance, although cases of spontaneous rupture have been reported. Awareness of this lesion should prevent a misdiagnosis of pulmonary arteriovenous fistula or other serious, radiographically evident lesion.
