Abstract
In this study, patterns of drug use were compared for Mexican American and Anglo narcotic addicts. The Mexican Americans showed much less experimentation in their drug use, with the most typical pattern being first marijuana and then heroin use. These differences are maintained when medical use, social class, and prior delinquency histories are controlled. A speculative hypothesis for these findings concerns cultural differences in the perception of the value of the drugs. Keywords
