Abstract
The crystal structure of the dimeric dimethylaminoboron dichloride was determined from Weissenberg photographs by Patterson and Fourier projections and then refined with three-dimenional data by the least-squares method. Dimeric dimethylaminoboron dichloride crystallizes in the monoclinic space group C 2/ m . The lattice constants are: a = 11.001, b = 8.415, c = 6.724 Å, β = 119.5°; Z = 2. The previously assumed structure with a four-membered ring built by B and N atoms could be confirmed. The ring is planar and approximately square-shaped. Whereas the distances B–N and N–C agree very well with the values given in the literature, the distance B–Cl exceeds with 1.830 Å considerably all values hitherto known. This is probably due to the four covalent bonds formed by the boron atoms. The angle B–N–B shows with 86,9° an unexspected low value which suggests possibly the existence of three-center bonds. This publication has 18 references indexed in Scilit:
