Abstract
It has been shown that reaction of furan-2-carbaldehyde with three or four molecules of aniline gives rise to a substance assigned as 4- phenyl-1,6-di( phenylamino )-7-phenylimino-3a,4,4a,7,7a,7b-hexahydro-1H-dicyclopenta [ b,d ]pyrrol-2(3H)-one rather than the simple anil previously proposed. The use of an excess of furan-2-carbaldehyde gives not furoin anil but a compound of polymeric structure.
