PRESERVATION OF CADAVER KIDNEYS USING HYPOTHERMIG, HYPEROSMOLAR, INTRACELLULAR WASHOUT SOLUTION

Abstract
Hypothermic, hyperosomolar, intracellular washout solution for human kidney preservation was successful in 18 kidneys obtained from 9 heart beating cadavers. The ischemic interval ranged from 2 h and 57 min to 39 h and 48 min. All 18 kidneys functioned within 3 h of revascularization. Acute tubular necrosis with oliguria was noted in 4 of 6 patients with ischemic intervals longer than 20 h but not in the 12 patients receiving kidneys preserved for 19 h or less. All patients with acute tubular necrosis post-transplantation required hemodialysis with eventual recovery.
