Abstract
Relatively little is known of the effect of the environment on the nose and pathogenesis of nasal disease. Basic to the acquisition of such knowledge is an appreciation of normal nasal physiology and, importantly, the mucociliary transport system (MTS). So, following a short introduction of this physiology, the panel members will discuss some important aspects of the environment and ultrastructure of the cilia on the MCT, and in so doing provide some new insights on the pathogenesis of nasal disease. Keywords
