Abstract
The activities of three mitochondrial respiratory enzymes were determined in the liver of 33 normal and 38 cortisone-treated rats of different age and sex. In addition, glucose-6-phosphate isomerase, aldolase, glycerophosphate kinase, and lactic dehydrogenase activities were determined in mitochondrial supernatants. The activity of cytochrome oxidase in mitochondria of cortisone-treated rats was decreased, especially in rats of more than one year of age. The diphos-phopyridine nucleotide-cytochrome c reductase activity was somewhat decreased in old cortisone-treated rats, the succinic dehydrogenase activity was unaltered in all groups. No cortisone-induced changes in the activities of the glycolytic enzymes were found. Keywords
