Abstract
The dimensional changes during relaxation and washing of fabrics of plain-knit construction made from a range of wool/man-made fibre yarn blends have been investigated for two different knitted stitch lengths. The results obtained suggest that static wet-relaxation of the fabric is not sufficient to bring the plain-knit construction to its fully relaxed state and shrinkage-time characteristics of the fabrics suggest that further relaxation of the fabric occurs during the first 30—40 minutes' washing. The shrinkage during washing results have been interpreted to differentiate between dimensional changes due to felting and delayed relaxation. In this way, the effect of blending wool with manmade fibre on both the felting and delayed relaxation shrinkage may be determined. Keywords
