Abstract
Elementary mathematical relations are formulated to permit calculation of quantum yields for polymer crosslinking and scission by exponentially attenuated radiations. The data required are such readily observable quantities as polymer molecular weight, solution viscosity, insolubles (gel) content, film thickness, radiation absorption coefficient, and incident surface radiation dose. The derived equations are illustrated graphically to facilitate visualization of the interplay of the various factors influencing polymer film modification by radiation. Keywords
