Abstract
The problem is to calculate the field of an electric dipole on a smooth spherical or cylindrical surface which contains a localized obstruction. An approximate solution is obtained by combining the rigorous theory of diffraction by a sphere and the approximate Kirchhoff diffraction theory for black screens. The application to ground wave propagation is briefly indicated. Keywords
