Abstract
Photoemission measurements on cesiated Ag have resolved structure in the 4d band density of states. The relative position of the different features agrees well with calculations by Snow. The measurements on AgMn alloys indicate that the filled part of the spin split Mn 3d state is located 1·5 ev and farther below the Fermi level. The energy separation between the top of the Ag 4d band and the Fermi level changes only slightly on alloying with Mn. The results are in agreement with the virtual bound state model for noble–transition metal alloys. It has not been possible to locate the position in energy of the unfilled part of the split Mn 3d state from photoemission measurements on cesiated AgMn alloys. Keywords
