Readout Characteristics of Micro-optical Head Operated in Bi-stable Mode

Abstract
A micro-head consisting of a semiconductor laser and an external recording medium is proposed and its readout characteristics are investigated both experimentally and theoretically. A newly developed optical head structure, a signal detection mechanism, media compatibility, signal-to-noise ratio improvement by an anti-reflection coated laser and dynamic data signal detection using a flying slider and a glass substrate disk are demonstrated.
