Energy states in thin films of aluminium

Abstract
The energy states of <or=100 AA thin, free standing aluminium films have been probed using 6 keV electrons in a transmission symmetric coplanar (e, 2e) scattering experiment. The apparatus was optimised using known angular correlations from helium and the coincidence binding energy spectrum of hydrogen molecules. The coincidence binding energy spectrum of Al was fitted with eight overlapping gaussian peaks. States at 32 eV and 70 eV show s-state angular correlations at an energy resolution of 19 eV (FWHM), indicating they are mixtures of unresolved states.
