Abstract
Palatal myoclonus with associated manifestations is generally considered an infrequent neurological disorder. The authors have observed 8 cases in 19 months with palatal myoclonus. The case histories and findings are presented. The various factors limiting our knowledge concerning the clinical recognition and incidence of the phenomenon are discussed. The associated pathology was documented by therapeutic biopsy of an epidermoid in the cerebellopontine angle in one patient; and autopsy in another with hemangioblastoma of the cerebellum. The pertinent literature on clinical, pathologic and pathophysiologic aspects of this phenomenon was reviewed. Palatal myoclonus may represent another type of extrapyramidal disorder provoked by disturbed neural mechanisms in the brainstem including the cerebellum. Keywords
