Abstract
A non-iterative variational technique for constructing model stellar atmospheres is described. There are no restrictions on the physical state of the atmosphere other than hydrostatic equilibrium and energy conservation. The temperature within the atmosphere is expressed as a series in pressure the coefficients of which are determined by a search technique. The method is rapid and appears to be well suited to the computation of grids of model atmospheres.
