Abstract
The relative transmission of monoenergetic electrons through a dielectric foil suspended in vacuum has been observed to depend upon the previous history of the foil. A plot of this transmission against energy of incident electrons shows something resembling a type of hysteresis loop. Experiments are discussed which give evidence that this hysteresis loop is produced through the collection of negative charge within the foil. Keywords
