Abstract
The essential oils of M. stellata (Sieb. et Zucc.) Maxim. (Magnoliaceae) were examined in detail and the chemotaxonomic applications discussed. The yields of oils were 0.21-0.35% in the fresh leaves, 0.25-0.42% in the branchlets, 0.07% in the trunk and 0.37% in the flower buds. The characteristic components of essential oil of the leaves were trans-.alpha.-farnesene, .beta.-caryophyllene, .delta.-cadinene, trans-nerolidol, elemol, .alpha.-cadinol and trans, trans-farnesol, while those of the branchlets, trunk and flower buds were 1,8-cineole, .beta.-pinene, .beta.-myrcene, .gamma.-terpinene, p-cymene, fenchone, camphor, terpinen-4-ol and .alpha.-terpineol.Keywords
