Abstract
The classification of the Myxomycetes from the time of Linnaeus is briefly reviewed. The change in its delimitation as a group, its internal classification and its relationship with other organisms are discussed. It is concluded that if the class is restricted to the 2 subclasses Ceratiomyxomycetidae (Exosporeae) and Myxogastro-mycetidae (Endosporeae) present knowledge justifies its retention in the fungi as the only class of the subdivision Myxomycotina. It is pointed out that the genus Echinostelium does not fit into the order Stemonitales, where it has heretofore been placed, nor in any other recognized order, hence the order Echinosteliales is proposed, to include the single family Echinosteliaceae and the single genus Echinostelium. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
