Abstract
The authors report 1.3 µm DFB lasers operating in the –40 – 85°C temperature range without a thermo-electric cooler. At 85°C the threshold current is 35 mA and quantum efficiency is as high as 0.21 mW/mA. In a 2.5 Gbit/s system, measurements with a highly dispersive fibre indicate a transmission penalty below 0.3 dB up to 75°C.Keywords
